A collaborative team of USM and UA investigators is developing an RNA interference (RNAi) biopesticide technology, (PCT/US2022/074648), that promises unparalleled specificity and environmental compatibility to protect cotton plants against the sap-feeding pest Bemisia tabaci (Whitefly). The team has developed transgenic cotton plants expressing potent gene-silencing RNA constructs. This project aims to demonstrate the market-ready status of the technology in protecting crops.
