Securing the Nation from Satellite-Based Cyberattacks

Montana State University

This project aims to adapt a technology making computers resilient to both radiation and cyberattacks to the Department of Defense (DoD) needs. The project scope includes customer discovery, building and testing a DoD-specific prototype, and working with MSU spinout Resilient Computing, LLC to establish a commercialization plan for the technology.

CRISPR-based engineering of RNAB

Montana State University

CRISPR RNA-guided endonucleases have enabled precise editing of DNA. However, options for editing RNA remain limited. Here, we combine sequence-specific RNA cleavage by CRISPR RNA-guided ribonucleases with programmable RNA repair to make precise deletions and insertions in RNA. This work establishes a new recombinant RNA technology with immediate applications for the facile engineering of RNA […]

Virtual Simulator for College Success: Prototype to Commercialization

Montana State University

Virtual simulator (Crash Course) that translates the career scholarship of Tricia Seifert, MSUbs Dean of the College of EHHD. This simulator not only demonstrates research translation in an atypical field, but has great promise to improve postsecondary educational outcomes, as it will especially benefit first-generation college students, for whom collegiate success is far from certain.

Enhancing Crop Yield by Decreasing Apical Dominance

Montana State University

Teosinte Branch 1 (TB1) is a gene that controls apical dominance in plants. This MSU team discovered that reducing TB1 function through targeted mutation decreases apical dominance and increases tillering leading to increases in grain yield in wheat by as much as 15%. This team is currently funded to perform customer discovery and build relationships […]

Increasing Translational Marine Science Research Capacity in the First State

University of Delaware

This ART-GEO supplement project will accelerate marine science translational research by educating Delaware marine scientists on identifying translational research opportunities and training them in translational research best practices. The training will be put to use by implementing scalable translational research activities that engage stakeholders and inform decisions impacting our ocean, climate, and coastal infrastructure.

Algorithm-guided Geotechnical Surveying using Wearable Miniaturized Sensors

This project will create a hardware-algorithm prototype for real-time subsurface geohazard assessment. It combines low-cost sensors with a swarm exploration algorithm to address the need for rapid, affordable geotechnical data. Internal funding will support prototype development, market research, and preparing for external grant applications.

High-efficient inactivation of airborne viruses using a microwave-enabled air filtration system

New Jersey Institute of Technology

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for advanced air filtration technologies to combat airborne virus transmission. Existing filtration methods primarily capture pollutants but fail to inactivate microbial agents. This project develops an innovative microwave-responsive catalyst integrated into HVAC filters to inactivate viruses and bacteria. The catalyst generates high-temperature “hot spots” and reactive species under […]

Functional Nano-carbon Enhanced Phase Change Materials (PCMs)

New Jersey Institute of Technology

This project plans to develop high-performing and durable composite phase change materials (PCMs) by combining functional nano-carbon materials with different PCMs (organic, inorganic, eutectic), which can be used in various industries that require thermal management.

XCopilot: Private Code Generation with Large Language Models

New Jersey Institute of Technology

The demand from both individuals and enterprises for integrating commercial-grade AI-powered (software) code generation tools into their software development pipelines has significantly increased. This emergent market is projected to reach $264 billion by 2032 across a wide range of industry sectors, i.e., healthcare, retail, education, manufacturing, etc. However, many individuals and enterprises are afraid to […]
