Frequent flood events pose ongoing challenges to communities, such as property damage, washed-out roads, and casualties. This team identified their minimum viable product to best support flood adaptation in local communities to be place-based compound flood risk assessment and community-led adaptation strategies that consider current and future climate based on Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan Pluvial Model. This STRP adapted the curriculum of a jointly offered undergraduate and graduate-level course (CEIE 445/645). Course activities were crafted to reshape workforce development from a classroom-focused approach to a user-centered engineering modeling focus. Each year, students work with local stakeholders who make formal requests for flood adaptation support to deliver tailored flood resilience data products.
