Innovation Ambassador: Catherine Fromen

Dr. Catherine Fromen, Associate Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware (UD), is spearheading cutting-edge work that bridges fundamental science with real-world therapeutic innovation. Supported in part by pilot funding from the UD NSF Accelerating Research Translation program (NSF ART 2331440) and the Institute for Engineering Driven Health, Dr. Fromen has developed sophisticated engineered models to map how inhaled medicines disperse in the lungs and gut, and more recently has turned her attention to training lung-resident macrophages to seek and kill cancer cells — a strategy designed to strengthen immune responses in hard-to-treat lung cancers. Her efforts have already yielded multiple patent-pending inventions and meaningful industry collaborations. In her role as an Innovation Ambassador, she is actively encouraging fellow researchers to turn their laboratory discoveries into impactful solutions for human health. Learn more about her work here.
