Learn about the new IMPACT journal on June 3

Please join us for the next learning session on June 3, 9-10 a.m. EDT (2-3p.m. BST / 3-4 p.m. SAST).

During this session, Dr. Susanna Campbell, provost associate professor at American University, and Aaron Stanley, visiting scholar at American University, will talk about IMPACT journal, a new open-access, metadisciplinary publication for advancing knowledge and practice about research’s societal impacts. The journal’s launch is planned for this November.

IMPACT is designed to provide a dedicated venue for research and evidence-informed work that speaks to researchers, practitioners, policy experts, intermediaries, and funders alike. The journal will be both a peer-reviewed outlet and an interactive platform, pairing traditional scholarly publication with formats and features designed for ongoing community engagement that cross disciplinary and sectoral boundaries. IMPACT will curate contributions around shared questions of practice and impact, rather than narrow disciplinary specialization, and it will welcome a range of formats beyond the traditional research article—including case studies, methodological reflections, perspectives and commentary, toolkits and interactives, and synthesis pieces.

Susanna and Aaron will share the journal’s vision and editorial approach, walk through the content model and submission pathways, and discuss how members of this community can engage and contribute—whether by submitting work, shaping early thematic clusters, or helping develop the journal’s interactive features.

The following questions will guide the discussion:

  1. How can a journal serve not only as a publication venue but also as a connective infrastructure for the broader community looking to connect research and evidence to policy and practice?
  2. What kinds of contributions, voices, and formats would you like to see and contribute to IMPACT?

These monthly learning sessions support a global hub of knowledge and practice for researchers, practitioners, policy experts, intermediaries, funders, and others working to connect evidence, policy, and practice in more effective ways. The sessions seek to strengthen connections within this wide-ranging community, including by sharing promising practices, programs, and resources, as well as common challenges and needs.

Please register for the learning session using the link above, and feel free to forward it to others who may be interested in joining. Prior participation in activities is not required to attend this session. Please reach out to me and Cameron Korver if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you June 3.
