This webinar featured Florida State University’s presentation of their NSF ART (Accelerating Research Translation) program called IGNITE FSU, where Stacey Patterson (Vice President for Research) and Valerie McDivitt (Associate Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Innovation) shared their institution’s transformation in research translation and technology transfer over the past two years. The presenters outlined four key pathways to impact including infrastructure building, education and training, high-impact partnerships, and creating a network of champions, highlighting specific achievements such as the establishment of Ignite Tallahassee incubator with 5 resident and 12 affiliate member tenants, raising $3.8 million in funding, and hosting Discovery Days events that attracted nearly 2,500 attendees. The discussion included insights about their mentoring relationship with the University of Florida, challenges with promotion and tenure processes, and strategies for supporting faculty interested in startups, while also addressing questions about metrics and social impact measurement.
